One of the most difficult things a
parent, a spouse, a family member or friend ever has to go through is finding
out someone they love is 'gay.' The news
can be devastating. At SBM, we completely
understand the emotions and feelings you are probably going through right
now. Please understand -- you are not alone.
We want you to know SBM is here to
help you personally - in any way we can.
While the media and society is trying to convince America that
homosexuality is just another “alternative” lifestyle, that people are born
“gay” and we should just “accept” homosexuals for who they are – we are here to
tell you they are wrong. Homosexuality is not natural or normal
and SBM firmly and biblically believes no one is born “gay.”
Understand – homosexuality is an
outward expression of an inward conflict.
In most cases, no one “chooses” to struggle with same-sex attractions
(to be attracted toward a person of the same sex,) but these unnatural feelings
usually develop early on in the childhood for a variety of different
reasons. These reasons can be due to
some type of early childhood trauma, dysfunction or broken or unhealthy relationship(s.) One would never
encourage a drug addict or alcoholic to remain in their destructive behavior –
and the same must be said for the homosexual individual.
The encouraging news is that there
are countless “former” homosexual individuals – men and women who have
successfully left their unwanted, unnatural same-sex attractions and moved on
to “healthy” heterosexuality – they way God intended it. This same great hope is available to every
man and woman who truly desires it.
First, spend time on the SBM website.
There is a mountain of information, numerous resources and many links for you
to browse through, many of which are updated regularly.
Second, call the office of SBM to talk privately and
confidentially with a SBM Ministry Representative. You are not going to get
just anyone on the other end of the phone to simply pray with you. You will
speak to a man or woman who understands the issue of homosexuality – because he or she was there.
